Holistic Care for Safe, Gentle Healing

Scott Becker, MD

"Recently one of my mentors made the following statement: "Illness is an opportunity to get us more into balance"

sscott becker bio

Dr. Becker is known to excel at translating the medical complexities found within each of our bodies to a level anyone can easily grasp. Using the worldwide, well studied, scientific model of Functional Medicine he delivers a solution to multitudes of diseases and illness patterns, which medical professionals have wrestled with for generations and failed. Traditionally patients were often left clueless, and without alternatives prior to an encounter with this unique physician.
It has been over 20 years since Scott Becker began his medical career during the late 1980’s. Initially Dr. Becker specialized in Pediatric Medicine. While building one of the largest small group private Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine practices, he simultaneously was a Pediatric Emergency Room Attending in the highest volume, and highest acuity Pediatric Emergency rooms of South Florida. He was one of a select few physicians who opened up Joe DiMaggio's Pedi-Emergency Room.
For 15 years he has taught medical students in all levels of Nova Medical School as well as nursing, physician assistant, and nurse practitioner students of several colleges of South Florida.
Dr. Becker’s passion is to prepare students to enter any clinical setting, then using the strength of their interpersonal skills to "think outside the box" in approaching patient and family centered care.
Five years ago through a series of fate he transformed to the opposite end of the continuum, and began to care for adults. The field is known as Longevity Medicine, or Age Management which he now cares for includes Adult and Pediatric Adrenal and Chronic Fatigue, Alternative Treatments for Attention Deficit, Gluten Sensitivity and related symptoms, Food Sensitivities, Athlete Optimization, Thyroid Disorders, Adult and Pediatric Obesity and Weight Management, Peri-Menopause, and Menopause Management.
As he observed the families of children under his care from his previous practice, he began to realize that the parents of these children were undergoing stress. Their stresses encompassed all areas from finance to emotional and eventually causing physical symptoms. These stresses occur while those families were managing the routines of their daily lives.
Many doctors in this country currently specialize in Pediatric Medicine. However, there did not seem to be a place for the parents to be able to discuss the changes and problems overtaking their lives. Traditional medicine may help people address specific diseases or conditions; however, no field seemed to encompass the whole process of aging and all the systems which were affected. Dr. Becker finally found a niche where his studies and clinical practice would have the most benefit while altering the very lives of those people most in need.

When it comes to older clients, the common complaints are feeling tired, lack of focus, changes of body appearance and weight, skin tone, hair loss, and low libido. These symptoms may be present in both men and women. In women, these changes have almost never been linked with menopause. In fact, menopause has been considered a medical crises involving a mental/emotional disorder. No one seems to understand that these are naturally occurring, transitional phases, which can be managed, and, in doing so, can actually enhance a woman's life. By replacing diminishing hormone levels to their optimized state, women are able to regain the vigor, enthusiasm and even the appearance of their younger years. At one time, we all thought that Gynecologists would have been trained to treat and care for these symptoms.

However, the numbers of suffering women, who have increasingly come to our attention, are testimony to the fact that this is not the case.
In addition, Dr. Becker is involved in the field of Functional Medicine. This is the scientific discipline which allows physicians to restore balance and function to the human body which then demands a new clinical approach to prevention and treatment. It reflects a systems biology approach to health care. This is a comprehensive analysis of the manner in which all components of the human biological system interact functionally with the environment over time. By integrating these very powerful areas, Dr. Becker has watched solutions unfold leaving clients the answers for which they have searched a lifetime and often never finding.
Through extensive blood work, and/or saliva testing, he first assess where each patient's levels are. He then separates programs into three phases:
Phase 1, Restorative or Resuscitative, is the actual replenishment of all of the most vital areas which will give significant functional improvement to a lifestyle. Phase 2, Transitional, is a stage of Adrenal Evaluation. This is the crucial central area which MUST be balanced, or none of our progress will sustain long term.
Phase 3, Maintenance Phase, is a stage where supplements may even move to a less amount or shrink in the number of supplements needed.
The process may be similar to the analogy of a "classic car". If our oil level is low, the car will still run for a while. However once the oil is changed, and brought up to its proper levels, the car will run better and last longer. We then may balance and align the tires and have a smoother ride over time. Ultimately, we can wash and wax the surface, and our "classic" pride and joy will leave us feeling better each time we get in to go for a ride.
Since beginning to study the aging process, Dr. Becker has been able to assemble certain protocols, which, when applied on an individualized basis, can dramatically alter a person's life.
Imagine if everyone had their hormones balanced properly, we might be able envision the world as a much better place to live.
As a colleague in his field recently said, "All I do is show up each day, tell the truth, and the rest unfolds before our very eyes."
Dr. Becker sits on the cutting edge in the management of complex medical systems which he gives individual the time to find and understand what underlies the patterns linking everything together.
He has positioned himself to learn from the leaders of each of these areas of expertise of this new horizon. He even takes it one step further by classifying himself as a "Professor of Learning", as he aspires to standards of excellence which sets his bar at the highest level. From that vantage point as a leader he then designates himself as a "Center for Teaching Excellence" for future physicians throughout the world.
